The Blue Mountain Boys with Buddy Lancaster on mandolin, Jim Hinkle on banjo, and
Tommy Simmons on guitar. The band also included Dean Hinesley.
This Ozark Folk Center 50th Anniversary Legacy Photo
is in recognition of generations of musicians.
With appreciation, Kay Hinkle.
This photo of the Blue Mountain Boys was taken during the 1964 or 1965 Folk Festival in the old Mountain View High School Gymnasium which was the early location for the annual Folk Festival in April. For young musicians it felt like they were a small part of something that would be great for the community.
The group played together for many years. Buddy Lancaster was a great old time fiddler and he also played the upright bass and, as shown in the photo, mandolin. Dean Hinesley is an accomplished musician on several instruments. In addition to playing the guitar, Tommy Simmons provided vocals for the band. Jim Hinkle was a self-taught banjo player and he remembers that it was a lot of fun for the band to play at the festival. Hinkle also danced at the first festival in the play party game directed by Bob Blair.
Entry by Jim Hinkle.
